UNINSURED MOTORISTS | Seizure of Documents and Plates of 2005-2006

Why should 500,000 drivers be allowed to violate the law by driving without insurance, while law enforcement was handcuffed from enforcing the laws?

This law is the solution to:

Reducing the 12,500 accidents and over $80 million in un-reimbursed damages these drivers inflict every year by allowing local and state law enforcement officers to take a screw driver and to immediately remove the tags from the cars of uninsured motorists. When you see a car on the side of the road without a tag, think about this law and thank law enforcement.

Impact:

Since this law went into effect, tens of thousands of license tags per year have been removed from UNINSURED MOTORISTS by law enforcement at routine traffic stops. When you see a car on the side of the road, you can think about this legislation, but thank law enforcement. Thank you to Sgt. Riazzi of Winston-Salem Police Department for contributing this idea.

Concealed Carry Act of 2005-2006

A police officer is never off duty. Shouldn’t police officers have a weapon wherever crime is happening?

This law is the solution to:

A bureaucratic nightmare that required over 500 law enforcement agencies across North Carolina to file procedural affidavits. Before this law came into effect, off duty police officers were prohibited from carrying a concealed weapon in public places such as malls. Now they can carry concealed weapons in public venues which will provide an increased level of safety for the public and to the officers’ families.

Impact:

Lives saved.

No Prayer for Judgment/Bus Stop Arm Violation of 2005-2006

Is it fair that people who get a ticket for passing a stopped school bus and sometimes strike children receive no penalty at all?

This law is the solution to:

Preventing a person who is guilty of passing a stopped school bus from receiving a Prayer for Judgment Continued. With the developmental help of N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice, I. Beverly Lake and the Administrator Of The Courts, Ralph Walker.

Impact:

Lives saved. Before the law was passed there were 400,000 stop arm violations per year in North Carolina, with approximately 1,500 citations and 150 convictions of the original charge. No longer can the Prayer for Judgment Continued be used.

Identity Theft Act of 2007-2008

Why should tax payers/victims be paying for the thousands of hours per week that law enforcement and the court system spend verifying the identities of people who do not produce a driver’s license when requested by a law enforcement officer?

This law is the solution to:

Protect the identity of individuals by permitting law enforcement officers to take photographs of people who are cited for a motor vehicle violation and do not produce a valid driver’s license. The intent is to protect innocent people whose names and birth dates are given to police officers by stopped motorists in hopes of escaping prosecution, which ultimately leads to the victim being arrested for failure to appear for an offense they had no knowledge of. Their identity was stolen.

Impact:

Money saved. In a majority of cases of identity theft, the victim is able to solve the crime because they recognize the picture of the person who stole their identity.

School Bus Safety Act of 2005-2006

Why do we tolerate our children potentially being killed or injured? Every year over 400,000 motorists pass school buses with their stop arms extended. “People lose children for lots of reasons, unfortunately. And this doesn’t have to be one of them.”

This law is the solution to:

Make it safer for our children to get on and off their school buses by minimizing the risk to them and maximizing the punishment for passing a stopped school bus.

Impact:

Lives and minds saved.

Future Volunteer Firefighters Act of 2009-2010

Did you realize that over 70% of the fire protection in North Carolina is provided to you by volunteers who keep property and homeowners insurance low?

This law is the solution to:

The federal government reclassifying 16- and 17-year-olds as employees and therefore preventing them from getting the training they needed.

Impact:

Money and lives saved. Now the Junior Member Cadet Program is classified as an educational activity, and volunteer fire departments will have the recruits they need to remain viable. Thank you to Chief Tim Lasley for contributing this idea.

Change Format of Drivers Licenses Under 21 of 2007-2008

Did you realize that over 15% of the 50,000 vendors of alcohol and tobacco in North Carolina sell underage every day?

This law is the solution to:

The difficulty of determining a person’s age by changing the orientation of the license from horizontal to vertical.

Impact:

Money and lives saved. Clerks and servers can more quickly determine a person’s age.

See H2487 legislation

Run and You’re Done of 2011-2012

Did you realize that every week innocent people and law enforcement officers are put in danger and sometimes killed when someone tries to run from a blue light?

This law is the solution to:

People not thinking about their actions behind the wheel and putting themselves and others in danger.

Impact:

Lives and money saved. Thank you to Sgt. Dickson of North Carolina Highway Patrol for contributing this idea.
